— Question —
Why is kindness everything?
Kindness Is Everything is a big statement — bold, even.
But is it true? Is kindness really everything?
Well, to answer this question, it may help to first take a look at what isn’t everything.
Many of us desire money, but money isn’t everything.
Money is important and can be used to do great things, but it’s usually just a means to an end — not the end itself.
Those who seek true happiness in material things frequently find themselves disappointed.
Money is everything.
Winning is nice, but winning isn’t everything, either.
Victory undeserved isn’t triumphant; it’s troubling. Losses that focus us aren’t failures; they’re fuel.
What matters most isn’t whether we win or lose — it’s how well we play the game.
Winning is everything.
Talent and Looks
Talent is a special gift.
However, talent isn’t everything because talent is often fully maximized only when combined with very hard work.
Looks, too, are enviable.
However, looks aren’t everything because all things external eventually fade.
Talent is everything.
Looks are everything.
Fame and Power
Fame is incredibly seductive.
However, fame isn’t everything because the brightness of the spotlight has left many people burned.
Power, too, is alluring.
However, power isn’t everything because power unused is better than power abused.
It’s not the presence of power that makes one worthy, but how one chooses to wield it.
Fame is everything.
Power is everything.
So What Is Everything?
If immense wealth, awards, natural ability, beauty, celebrity, and influence aren’t everything — what is everything?
- What would you still want in life if everything else was stripped away?
- What is the absolute last thing in the world you would want taken from you in even the worst of circumstances?
- What would still sustain you and give you strength if it was the only thing left on this Earth that was still genuinely yours?
For many people, there’s only one answer:
Love Is Everything
Whether it be romantic love, family love, friendship love, love of animals, love of the environment, or love of humanity, it is love that many in this world hold the most dear.
The ability to give love and receive love not only nourishes the soul, but can also better even the most bleak of situations:
- At its very best, love is pure and unsullied by the burden of conditions.
- At its most magical, love is medicine that can resurrect wounded hearts broken by the beasts of betrayal or loneliness.
Love revives. Love reassures. Love rescues.
Love is, and always will be, an extraordinarily essential and exciting part of human life.
But What Is Love Without Action?
What is love without comforting touches, encouraging words, supportive glances, meaningful smiles, helping hands, and warm embraces?
Love, in the heart of anyone, is undeniably precious simply because it exists.
Even when tightly controlled or cloaked under a dark veil of secrecy, love is an anchor that can provide grounding in the midst of a storm and a reason for resilience when one is weary or weak.
However, when love is generously set free and magnified through action, that’s when the brilliance of love’s light really shines:
- It is action that’s important to love because that’s how love takes flight.
- It is action that’s integral to love because that’s the only way love can soar to its greatest potential.
Few things in this world fully flourish when they remain caged and contained.
Love needs to be acted upon, in ways both large and small, and released into the world so it can do the most good.
When love is acted upon by warmhearted people who want to better the world through acts of compassion, generosity, and service — it’s called kindness.
Kindness Is Love In Action
Kindness is a means through which love is conveyed:
Kindness is an engine that distributes love and acts of kindness are the vehicles in which love travels.
Acts of kindness are so much more than just friendly smiles or simple helping hands:
- Acts of kindness are moments of magic that make it possible for the love that resides in the heart of one individual to reach out and touch the heart of another.
Kindness doesn’t ever compete with love — it completes it.
It carries love to every corner of the globe so love may do its part to change this world for the better. In so doing, kindness multiplies love’s power and purpose.
Every single time a sincere act of kindness is performed, a seed of love is planted into the universe.
All around the world, as more kind acts and good deeds are done, these tiny seeds of love rapidly accumulate and, over time, have the potential to grow into a gorgeous garden of peace.
Kindness is important because acts of kindness are acts of love that strengthen bonds, lift spirits, and create a foundation for a more wonderful world.
No one doubts the world needs love and kindness, but, as you can see, love and kindness need each other, too.
Love and kindness are two faces of the very same coin and a passion for one is impossible without an appreciation for the other.
So if love is everything, but love needs kindness to thrive — then what does that tell us about kindness?
Kindness Is Everything, Too
Yes, as mentioned earlier, Kindness Is Everything is a big statement — bold, even.
But let’s play a game:
If you doubt kindness is everything, try to imagine a world without it.
If you still doubt kindness is everything, just try to find another word to describe it.
When you do, you’ll see that trying to sum up kindness in one word is challenging because kindness is so much more than just one thing:
Kindness is all things.
Kindness is cool. Kindness is sexy. Kindness is fun.
Kindness is contagious. Kindness is uplifting. Kindness is free.
Kindness is a strength. Kindness is a virtue. Kindness is a joy.
Kindness is all this and so much more.
When you seek to describe kindness, you realize kindness is so important and indispensable to this world — it’s impossible to be just one thing:
As love in action, kindness is everything.
Kindness is boundless and brave.
Kindness is helpful and healing.
Kindness brings so much necessary love, light, warmth, compassion, generosity, respect, service, and hope to the world — it’s difficult to call kindness anything but “everything.”
There is no day kindness cannot better. There is no person kindness cannot touch.
Kindness is immensely powerful, endlessly inspiring, and unmistakably beautiful.
We Need Kindness
Best of all, with its infinite range and incredible impact, kindness not only brings out the very best in love, but also the very best in ourselves as well:
- The more kind we are, the more we do to create the world we want.
- The more we do, the more we slowly become the people we want.
If we want the world to be a better place, we don’t have to sit on the sidelines and wait for others to come to our rescue:
We can each perform acts of kindness that fill the world with goodness and begin to rescue ourselves.
It’s one thing to wish for the world to change; it’s another thing to change the world into what we wish.
Intention is critical, but it’s action that’s key — so let’s take action!
Kindness Needs Us, Too
Since kindness is everything, let’s throw everything at kindness:
Let’s be kinder to one another and do our best to actually be our best.
If the things we do in life help to shape the perspective of others, our view of ourselves, and the world as a whole, then let’s shape these things into something breathtakingly beautiful:
- Let’s be kind to others by doing acts of kindness for strangers and loved ones alike — wherever we are and whenever we can.
- Let’s be kind to ourselves by maximizing our potential and treating ourselves with the same love we often reserve for others.
- Let’s be kind to the world by taking KIE Kindness Challenges to fight for the world we want and to plant seeds of kindness that have the potential to change the world and us.
We are each what we repeatedly do, and we will all reap what we repeatedly sow.
Therefore, let’s actively and purposefully choose to sow seeds of kindness and love.
Let’s do good deeds and truly help people — whether it be strangers, loved ones, or ourselves — so the world is a better place because we’re in it.
Let’s be passionate about kindness so the world may be its best and so we might be our best, too.
When the power of kindness combines with the passion of people, amazing things can happen.
Who knows, perhaps after all this time, the loving and peaceful world we’ve all been waiting for has simply been waiting for us.
Let’s not wait a moment longer.
How kind can you be today?
